The Hollywood Beauty Detective: Beauty Is The Essence of a Woman

A world full of comparison. We live in a society that thrives on a concept of beauty and on comparison. Just google "Who Wore It Better?" and you'll see examples of hundreds of images of women wearing the same dress with the question, "Who wore it better?" at the top of the two pictures.

Is it me, or does anyone else think that being compared to someone else like this, publicly, would be terrifying...and humiliating. See, I know that I would be the one who looked old, or fat, or just really stupid.

And here's the other women, we are given a template that essentially tells us what "beauty" looks like. A template that has been created, for the most part, by men - since the advertising industry is predominately a male driven industry.

Preach, Stephen Colbert. Refreame beauty!

This beauty standard is a very small slice of the reality pie. The typical western beauty ideal is usually a white women, young, thin, blonde, often times with large breasts (possibly enhanced). And let's add to this, photo-shopped. You know...where images are altered to look "better." So, we're encouraged to compare ourselves to images that aren't even real.

I read an article recently quoting an anonymous photo retoucher, who said, "There are just absolutely no images left that feature the real skin, curves, or hair of a woman that hasn’t been significantly altered. These ‘perfect’ actresses and models are far from perfect, but the industry has gone so off course that it doesn’t even matter anymore. They just redefine their looks and create the image with their own version of perfection."

There is a meme on Facebook of Stephen Colbert saying, "But if girls feel good about themselves, how are we going to sell them things they don't need?"

My friend, Cynthia Oredugba, is a visionary and an Inspirer. The look was created with her in mind.

I want the definition of beauty to be so much more than a perfect image. I want beauty to reflect an attitude...a glimpse into the essence of a woman.

The Hollywood Beauty Detective's 10 Legendary Looks were created to encourage women to use makeup as a tool to enhance a begin to open up the definition of beauty. To help us relearn that beauty is so much more than perfection.

My goal is to help women see that is the essence of who they are that makes them beautiful. So...whether you're a Leader, a Dreamer, a Thinker...or any one of the 10 Legendary Looks, you are putting that quality out to the world. By insisting that we want a more realistic beauty template, we are all reframing beauty.
